LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man is facing motor vehicle homicide and manslaughter charges for allegedly striking and killing a married couple out for a walk with his car while he was racing another vehicle, prosecutors said Friday.
Tyriek Brown, 26, of Everett, faces a remote arraignment Friday in Lowell District Court, according to a statement from the office of Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan. It was not clear if he had an attorney.
Brown was racing with another vehicle in Lowell at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday when the Ford Mustang he was driving veered off the road and struck Jose Medina, 66, and Fernanda Medina, 62, on the sidewalk, authorities said.
The Medinas were treated at the scene before they were both brought to the hospital and pronounced dead.
Brown was also brought to the hospital with injuries not considered life threatening.
His car was heavily damaged, its bumper became detached and its side airbags deployed, according to The Sun of Lowell. It also left long tire marks on the roadway.
Authorities are still looking for the other driver involved.
