Santino Ferrucci’s IndyCar debut ended with a crash.
The rookie driver from Connecticut was recruited to pilot the No. 19 Honda for Dale Coyne Racing after Pietro Fittipaldi was injured in a sports car crash. Ferrucci, who turned 20 on Thursday, was running in 13th place Saturday at Belle Isle when he was clipped from behind by the Chevrolet of Charlie Kimball and spun 360 degrees, eventually crashing into a tire barrier.
Ferrucci was checked and released afterward.
