HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) -- Jimmie Johnson is getting lots of love from some iconic sports stars following his record-tying seventh NASCAR championship.
Hall of Famers Larry Bird (basketball) and Mia Hamm (soccer) as well as swimmer Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, were among the first to reach out to Johnson with congratulatory messages. Auto racing great Mario Andretti and NFL star Drew Brees also weighed in.
Johnson clinched his seventh Sprint Cup championship Sunday night at Homestead-Miami Speedway, trying NASCAR legends Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty.
