IndyCar fans won’t have to wait long to see some of their favorite drivers qualify Saturday.
Four former winners _ Juan Pablo Montoya, Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves and Ryan Hunter-Reay _ all drew spots in the top 18 of the qualifying order Friday night. Will Poer, the IndyCar Grand Prix winner, also will drew the No. 10 spot.
Another former winner, Scott Dixon, has the No. 21 slot while defending series champion Simon Pagenaud drew No. 22 in line.
With rain chances Saturday morning expected to top 80 percent, it’s unclear who has the advantage: Those early in line when track temperatures tend to be cooler or those later in line when more rubber on the track helps improves speed.
Other significant draws include James Hinchcliffe at No. 25, Graham Rahal at No. 28, two-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso at No. 29, Sebastien Bourdais at No. 39, defending champ Alexander Rossi at No. 42, Marco Andretti at No. 43, Josef Newgarden at No. 46 and two-time Indy pole winner Ed Carpenter at No. 60.
