There was a "Fixer Upper" in front of the NASCAR Sprint Cup field at Texas.

Chip Gaines, who stars in the popular HGTV show with his wife Joanna, was an honorary pace car driver at Sunday's race. He led the 40-car field to the green flag.

After training with a NASCAR official in a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 pace car earlier Sunday, Chip Gaines then hopped in with Cup regular Ryan Newman as a passenger for a spin in the track's official 2017 Chevy SS pace car.

Gaines called it a rush, especially after driving only 45 mph to get acclimated to the pace car. When he jumped in as a passenger, Newman was doing over 100 mph through the banked turns at Texas.

"He got us way up in the top corner," Gaines said. "I had the honor to fly in an F-16 six or seven months back, and it's got a similar feel to it. It really shifts your body in a way that you can feel the Gs kind of falling on your chest."

Joanna Gaines and the couple's four kids got a ride on the 1 1/2-mile track in another Camaro driven by NASCAR Hall of Famer Terry Labonte, a two-time Cup champion and a Texas native.
