DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- The Daytona 500 can be an expensive endeavor, even for fans. It might be the costliest stay in sports.
According to travel site trivago, hotel prices in Daytona Beach for the 59th running of "The Great American Race" have made it the most expensive sporting event of 2017. They top the college football national championship in nearby Tampa and the Super Bowl in Houston.
Idk how, but as a sport we must fix this. https://t.co/YRkW5mPtPe

The peak hotel price in Daytona is $521 a night across the city's 160 hotels. The Super Bowl was $379 a night, and the title game was $287 a night.
Hotel prices for the Daytona 500 could rise between now and the Feb. 26 race, too. According to trivago, Daytona Beach hotels reached a peak price of $545 a night in 2016.
Trivago's hotel experts says the Daytona 500 might not keep the top spot all year. They predict the Kentucky Derby could take over the No. 1 spot.
